• I preorderd this book and got it delivered on its release date because I had such high hopes for it. I wanted to love it. But honestly, I'm not sure it will work for the average, working person/family. To follow the specific meal plans, you will need to set aside a significant portion of your day to cook. Day 3 of Intro Week is literally hours of prep and cook time. Also, several recipes, in addition to the daily morning smoothie, require a scoop of a specific Rootcology protein powder which runs $80 per canister on . Obviously at this price point, it may be not feasible for many people's household budget, especially if you're a mom who is having to increase the recipe sizes to feed a big family.
  
  On the upside, it's a beautiful book, lovely pictures, and great info on Hashimotos. Just maybe not the best solution for a busy, working, middle class family.
• Excellent! Izabella's comprehensive book offers super easy meal plans which are easy to implement along with any diet you may be following. This book will also help you understand how to approach your symptom burden (pain, IBS, hair loss, brain fog, etc) common in people with thyroid disease through the use of healing foods that are nutritious and delicious. The recipes are delicious and the pictures are gorgeous. As a nurse-nutritionist who works exclusively with women with Hashimoto's, I am recommending this book to all my clients.
• I absolutely LOVE this book. Izabella does a fabulous job of explaining Hashimoto's and the principles and science that support her healing through nutrition approach. She explains the "why" behind the concepts she presents. I found the information in this book comprehensive and extremely helpful. It goes way beyond typical medical advice. As an integrative health coach and person with Hashimoto's, I know firsthand how powerful and life-changing this material is. Izabella takes a difficult subject and breaks it down into easy, manageable steps. I just started trying the healthy recipes and so far they are delicious. I am dairy and gluten-free and can eat all the recipes in this book - yay! The directions are simple and the photographs are beautiful. I can't wait to keep trying new ones. I am now recommending it to all my clients who have Hashimoto's as well as people with other autoimmune conditions.

• I have bought numerous cookbooks over the years, paleo, mediteranean, and this and that...and based on my genetics, my food sensitivies and my thyroid health I always end up a little deflatted. But this book... finally a book for me!!!
  First recipe in picture, bison meatballs, so so good.
  The little notes in the book, so helpful, like random comments that fennel can be aggravating for autoimmune issues. Never knew that. I have not read the first part of the book yet, will get there soon.
• i own dr. wentz' other two books. she can be quite an information overload when you're first feeling out knowledge on hashimoto's but she is one of the best sources as well. the first part of the book is a condensed version of what you might find in her other two books while also diving more deeply into how your diet affects your autoimmune disease. the dialogue is approachable, and the author both personal and likeable.
  
  as far as the recipes go, i've made five at this point hot lemon water, spa water (do these count, lol!) truffled veggies, beef stew, and bibimbap bowls. all three FOOD recipes have been very successful for me, though i have to sub quite a few things due to my gut/food sensitivities. beef stew was bison stew; the meat in my bibimbap was bison meatballs as well, as i react to beef (and chicken, and fish!). i can't have garlic or onions so i leave those out as well as the avocado in the bibimbap. despite all that, everything has been a success and i just have to remind myself that i'm eating to heal right now. i hope some day soon i'll be able to reintroduce everything so i can have these recipes as they should be enjoyed. please don't hesitate to give this cookbook a try. everything is simple, straightforward, delicious, and doesn't require a ton of prep or cleanup. thank you, dr. wentz!

Vibrant pictures and easy to follow recipes.The first half was also extremely helpful as it explains how to avoid the common mistakes we might make especially going Gluten free (like i was ).This book (like all of the others Dr. Wentz has written )is an absolute MUST have for anyone with Hashimoto's or does not know where to begin as far as eating healthy for your Thyroid health ,as her insights and knowledge not only as a Doctor but also as a patient is a sigh of relief in this diet crazed world .Thanks again Dr.Izabella Wentz your insight has empowered me with knowledge I can use everyday!!!
• Very disappointed. She has written a book that isn't just for AIP, it include two other diets as well and all the recipes are mixed together. She does a two week diet plan for each, but no grocery list, so you are flipping back and forth trying to figure out what to buy to cook these recipes. The recipes are also not compiled per diet, but mixed together so again, more flipping back and forth. Completely frustrating! I can't answer for the taste of the recipes as I closed the book and put it aside.

• First of all, Gerald died last year. I am his widow. I was interested in the book, because I was born in 1929 into a Jewish family in Germany. I grew up in Belgium and France and in 1942 we were able to immigrate to Cuba. At that time the St. Louis tragedy of 1939 was still a subject our people talked about. Also. my late sister in law and her parents were on that ship, but had a valid visa for Cuba. Most of us waited for visas to continue to the US and we received ours in 1946.
  
  It is rather unlikely that a person like Hannah who hated living in Cuba would stay there all her life. After the war she could easily have moved on as most of us did. Anyhow, I devoured the book, but obviously the author was not there when our large German-speaking immigrantiamade it their refuge and temporary home.
• Needs to be proofread better -- there were typos and words that were hyphenated in the middle of a line for no reason. Very interesting story, but sad. I felt a contrast between the hopelessness and sense of doom Hannah and her mother felt and their intelligence and financial stability that might have allowed them to fulfill that dream of making it to the US. Most of the characters were clearly and well defined, but something was lacking as to the description of Hannah's brother, Gustav, and his son, Louis. How did it affect Gustav to marry another Jewish woman, whose family situation was similar to his, and how were they affected by the Cuban Revolution in such a different way than Hannah and her mother? How did Hannah and her mother manage to keep the house after the Revolution, and live without working? How did living in Cuba affect their personalities after living in Berlin and why didn't they ever make it to NY? What were the repercussions for Captain Gustav and the crew of the Saint Louis for being kind and humane to their Jewish passengers? What was the rest of his life like? So many questions, which may some day be answered in a sequel. I couldn't put the book down while reading it.

• A moving story of 5 generations struggling with their Jewish identity in a world they do not understand, with J stamped in the German passports of Jews, and "j" the Spanish pronunciation of Hannah, the prewar adolescent, that finally falls away from Anna, her present day great niece, against the real life background history of the Saint Louis ship and the 900 refugees refused by Cuba, the US State Department and Canada, most of whom would eventually be murdered by the Germans and their European collaborators.

• When offering criticism one can (a) show off one's own knowledge by accusing an author of failing to cover some aspect, that a closer reading shows they never set out to cover; (b) be spiky and aggressive under the illusion this is being polemical; and (c) try to be objective, which is less entertaining but more generally useful. I shall try to do (c). With some experience in academic reading and none in Chinese history I wanted an up to date introductory overview by an authority on the subject so I could quickly get to grips with the basics. I don't expect an introductory overview to deal in depth with all areas, or follow anything but a general path, trying to precis current knowledge. This book did the job for me and my knowledge and enthusiasm about Chinese history has grown. It was concise and articulated central ideas comfortably and memorably. The unexpected jewel for this novice however is the guide to further reading. It is not a dry list of authors and titles, but a whole after-chapter. It sets out the best available reading in English on the subject and breaks it down into historical periods and general sub-categories within each period eg politics, social history, intellectual history, cultural history etc. It shows a teacher's instinct to conserve your vital interest by allowing you to keep on the path you are genuinely interested in. I suspect it amounts to a whole first degree reading list. The price to pay is that to get this useful reading guide into the space available the author has had to settle for rather small print for this section of the book. It is a price well worth paying. My only criticism is the book is cumbersome to hold for long periods, and the sooner it is available on the better.
• No single book can adequately cover the greater than 5000 year history of China, but this survey comes close. It is mainly a social, cultural and political history, concentrating on the social, cultural, and political causes and effects on the civilization of China. It is an excellent introductory course, especially when teamed with Harold M. Tanner's two volume "China, a History."
• This is a good solid introductory history of China with much more well written text that I had expected. It covers the major facts very well. I would recommend for an introductory college course or anyone interested but unfamiliar with Chinese history. It contains many excellent and informative full color maps that I particularly appreciated. The many full color illustrations are clear and relevant to the text. It will remain in my Chinese history collection as an accessible reference. Garrison Moore
• Great illustrations, which help a lot. no nonsense style brings us the facts we need. And there are a lot of facts in the thousands of years of Chinese history.
• I bought a copy (used) for all my college grandsons and one for my daughter who lives near by Hong Kong. I also gave on to my nephew when he was home in the USA. He lives in Beijing. The book is not self-righteous or preachy. It is the straight stuff. Careful reading is necessary if you are going to live in China.

• Easy to read, this book accomplished what I was looking for a complete high-level view of chinese history.
  
  The few things I would have like to be a bit different
  - More maps, there are quite a few of them, but more would have helped
  - Less on art, I did not care about history of Chinese art, but about China and Chinese people
  - I was surprised that events like the building or the great wall or the decision to cut itself from the rest of the world by burning its navy was treated so quickly. I think some key events like these should have had a bit more time dedicated to them.
  
  However, all-in-all, I'm glad I read this book. It reads like a novel, not a class textbook, and for the first time allowed me to have a better understanding of the Chinese history, beyong the last few decades I had learned in High-school.
  
  I now need to find an equivalent book on India...
• Needed this book for a Chinese History class and it arrived on time and in great condition. The price was more than fair and WAY cheaper than buying it new.
  
  I thoroughly enjoyed this textbook and found it very easy to follow along. Ebrey's book is FAR less objective than many other books we sampled during my class. Another reviewer complained about how she scatters information around the book, frequently changing the subject only to come back to a thought she mentioned 30 pages back. I have to disagree completely. Instead, what Ebrey does is introduce a subject and interweave the significance of that subject into the entire chapter. This actually makes studying and learning the material in this book MUCH easier.

It flows nicely and goes well into depth about the singer's past in Zanzibar and his obvious wish to hide his upbringing, God knows why.
Good personality profile; nonjudgmental delivery gives examples of his behavior which suggest that while he was very outgoing, he privately felt like a "misfit". I highly recommend this book."

• I recently read another biography of the incomparable Freddie Mercury, but this version delved even more deeply into his background. Lesley-Ann Jones certainly did her homework in trying to track down details of the elusive singer's life. Her conversations with Freddie's last boyfriend, Jim Hutton, and Freddie's Austrian girlfriend, Barbara Valentin, were quite sad and emotional. Even 25 years later, the loss of this tremendously gifted artist is deeply felt by his fans. A very good read indeed! Freddie--we hardly knew ye, and that's how you wanted it. But your fans loved your work and admired your zest for life. Rest in peace.

WHY I LIKE THIS BOOK: This gross-out books is gobs of fun. Stiefel's prose is delightfully descriptive. Her conversational and humorous voice truly put the "story" in this history. Yet, at the same time, it's clear this is a well-researched text. Stiefel includes quotes from people who lived in the Middle Ages, as well as other tidbits, like the shopping list for a 6,000-person feast. Gerald Kelley's lively illustrations are a perfect match for the text, keeping the book fun and engaging for young readers. You'll find it hard to put down.

• Don't expect a whole lot of info, but the info that's there is interesting and should be especially fascinating to children.
• Rounds out the series. Just great.
• Many children are reluctant to choose non-fiction books. Series such as Chana Stiefel’s Ye Yucky Middle Ages may reverse this trend. In exchange for an interview and honest review, Chana graciously sent me a copy of this book. I was immediately intrigued by the title and the book cover.
  
  This chapter book series is well organized. The contents page spells out the topics being covered. Additional resources include a glossary of words to know and lists for additional print and Internet resources. A red font distinguishes words that are defined in the glossary. Colorful graphics and whimsical illustrations create a kid-friendly tone.
  
  One needs a good sense of humor and a strong stomach to cope with some of the recipes that Chana shares in this book. Would anyone ever imagine that medieval cooks used all the parts of an animal and had a propensity for serving life animals? Readers will be equally disgusted to learn the acceptable levels of uncleanliness. It was not out of the ordinary to find “beer, grease, bones, spit, and poop from dogs, cats and rats” under the table.
  
  Chana describes the differences between the wealthy who routinely gorged themselves during massive feasts and the poor who ate a more simple diet. Every day ingredients such as flour were a luxury for the less fortunate. Grinding their wheat and baking the bread were expensive processes.
  
  Food hazards affected all socio-economic classes. The ill effects were endless due to ignorance and a lack of refrigeration. Food availability became scarce during times of drought, excessive rain, and when the castle or community were under siege.
  
  Being aware of these medieval dangers helps readers appreciate our modern ways of food distribution, preservation, and preparation.
  
  Anyone interested in medieval times or the history of food will be fascinated by this book.
• Would you eat roasted swan, blackbird pie and cow's udder? According to There's a Rat in My Soup, you probably would...had you lived during the Middle Ages. Of course, if you had been a peasant, you would have eaten MUCH worse. Part of the "Ye Yucky Middle Ages" series, this 48 page book covers medieval cuisine in a very entertaining, yet informative way. The "yuck factor" and the cartoon-like illustrations by Gerald Kelley will draw young students in while they learn what life was really like in the kitchens and dining rooms of the time period. Sidebars include quotes from primary sources. Also included are a glossary, index, recommendations for further reading and websites.
  A recommended purchase, especially for those looking for age appropriate material for a Middle Ages curriculum. Grades 3-4 through 8th.
