The A Girl Named series tells the stories of how ordinary American girls grew up to be extraordinary American women. Rosa Parks refused to give up her bus seat to a white passenger in 1955, but how did she come to be so brave? A Girl Named Rosa describes the defining moments that made up her childhood and adolescence with full-color illustrations throughout. In addition to stories and facts about Rosa's upbringing and accomplishments, the book includes a timeline and a glossary, plus a profile of a noteworthy and contemporary American girl following in Rosa's monumental footsteps to stand up for equal rights, even in the face of adversity.

A Girl Named Rosa The True Story of Rosa Parks American Girl A Girl Named Denise Lewis Patrick Melissa Manwill Books Reviews

  • American Girl did an awesome job with this book. They did not leave out the fact that church and faith was a big part of her life. I am so glad that they did not leave this detail out of the book. American Girl stayed true to Rosa's story and I greatly appreciate that. This is a great way to introduce history to your children.
  • This is my 10yr olds review of the book- I like the book because it teaches a good lesson that some people need to learn cause there are some people that treat other people not fairly because of their race or color. We should all be treated the same.
  • Loved the book for my daughter!
  • My 5 year-old daughter has never liked reading nonfiction or history. She reads this book over and over. A great book to start discussing racism and the importance of equality!
  • Very good book!
  • This was a short synopsis of Rosa Parks’s life and her contributions to society. This is a great book to start some important discussions regarding equality and racism with your children. The story discussed the racism that Rosa’s generation experienced in a way that was appropriate for children.

I know this collection is geared towards little girls, but I bought it for my 7 year old son and he really liked learning about Rosa. He liked it so much that I bought two more copies to donate to his school.
